The Anita Posch Show: A Bitcoin only podcast

This is a Bitcoin & Co. live recording from the worlds first lightning conference that has been taking place this weekend in Berlin. For the first time around 500 lightning and bitcoin engineers, researches, developers, businesses, hardware builders and enthusiasts gathered to discuss and work on new projects. Two days packed with interesting talks, workshops and panels. You can find the live streams of most talks on YouTube in the conference channel.
I had the honour to moderate the “Lightning Hardware and Nodes” Panel on day 2. Due to technical problems, it could not be live streamed, but here is the audio. Thanks to Christian Rotzoll for recording. And kudos to Jonathan Cross, Justin Moon, Dario Duran and Viktor Bunin for reviewing my questions.

Now listen to four panelists who represented four devices:
Ketominer – nodl Box, Stacie Waleyko – Casa Node, Christian Rotzoll – RaspiBlitz and Sebastian Küng – BitBoxBase.

Introduce yourself very shortly and tell us which device you are presenting and: Which functionalities does your device offer? Is it a bitcoin full node, has it integrated Lightning, too – can it also be used as a hardware wallet?

04:09
What are the core design principles behind the development of your device? Who is your target customer?

07:06
Is your device able to verify bitcoin transactions?

08:38
What are other reasons for people to run their own nodes at home?

11:42
How open are your devices regarding software use. Which Software / Wallet do you offer for your device? Do you have your custom wallet?

14:41
Is it possible to connect to your node when you’re out and about with the smartphone and if so how?

17:21
Is the watchtower functionality in your setup included or is it not necessary?

19:01
How would a user verify that the node software is correct and that the node itself is healthy? Do you have any procedures or incentives for the hardware users that they run upgrades of the software / firmware regularly.

24:38
With Lightning there is no seed. What happens if your HW device is destroyed or it is stolen. How can you backup the state of your channels?

28:46
A lightning node should be online 24/7, how does your device handle the fact that it is offline sometimes?

32:01
What are your future plans for your products?
