Blogs & Articles: Breez Partners with Voltage to Provide Podcaster Nodes đź”— 3 years ago

Breez Technology - Medium

Since we released our in-app podcast player, the response has gobsmacked us. Our user base has been growing as fast as we can open channels.

Along with the great feedback, such rapid adoption is the most gratifying experience in the life of a developer. We build Breez for users, and watching how more and more people discover and use it confirms that our work is worthwhile. Thanks.

But there remains an asymmetry. While podcasting requires both listeners and podcasters, the two groups have different technical needs, and our mobile Lightning platform (predictably) serves the listeners better than the creators.

For example, the mobile light client only needs connectivity when it’s being actively used, but podcasters need uninterrupted connectivity because sats can stream in constantly, whenever any user in any timezone wants to listen.

However, many incoming podcasters new to Lightning lack constantly connected nodes. And not everyone knows or cares enough about the technology to configure their own server, acquire a working knowledge of lnd, c-lightning, Neutrino, or Bitcoin Core, and perform all the maintenance required for a secure, stable system. Even if pre-configured RaspiBlitzes for podcasters were on the market, only tech-savvy podcasters could use them effectively.

Voltage offers exactly what such podcasters need: Lightning nodes with ceaseless connectivity and minimal configuration, which is why Breez has partnered with them to deliver podcaster nodes.

For a monthly fee, Voltage offers remote, Tor-enabled Lightning nodes that can be controlled and monitored via browser, desktop, and mobile. Voltage handles the updates, backups, and maintains the software and hardware. For podcasters, Voltage also provides an analytics dashboard using the anonymous metadata sent from the Breez podcast player.

Breez contributes with one of our existing strengths: serving as the LSP. Specifically, Breez will help in the backend to make sure the podcaster nodes are well connected to the Lightning Network by seamlessly opening a one-million-sat channel, providing sufficient initial inbound liquidity, and helping to route payments successfully.

Podcaster nodes are the one-stop-shopping solution for podcasters who want to get into Podcasting 2.0.

This partnership lets us connect even more listeners with an even larger selection of podcasts while providing the same unrivalled UX to both. By building on our strengths, we’re evolving the Breez platform and helping the Lightning economy to grow.
